The "Death Railway" Section
Documenting a train journey in Kanchanaburi, Thailand with a camera
These are photos of trains I captured during my trip to Thailand last August. In Thailand, vintage diesel locomotives and carriages from the last century are still tirelessly in service. This unique travel experience has nearly vanished in China today, which is truly a poignant loss.

The “Death Railway” section is the surviving Thai segment of the Burma-Thailand Railway. It was constructed during World War II by Allied POWs and Asian laborers forced into labour by the Japanese military. As a surviving relic of that era, it witnessed the loss of over 100,000 lives under brutal conditions, earning its grim name. A product of forced labour, this railway is now regarded as the most heart-wrenching historical legacy in Southeast Asia.
